Tessellated House – Matt Elkan Architect – Built by Avalon Constructions.
This highly detailed and liveable home was designed by Architect Matt Elkan and constructed in precise detail with a palette of Australian hardwood, concrete, steel and stone.
Tessellated house stands where a 1950s beach side cottage once stood, it is a thoroughly considered architecturally designed two storey family home exploiting it’s coastal position to encourage cross flow ventilation from the seasonal coastal breezes that are present on the site. The solar penetration and passive design considerations allow beautiful well ventilated light filled spaces.
External blackbutt timber window screens provide shade in the hot summer sun, abundant use of louvers and externally mounted sliding doors allows the building to be opened up, tallow wood decks lead into lush private garden courtyards. Solar panels and a fully integrated data network ensure this house is ready for the future of power and communication networks.
